Dental appointment reminders are the cheapest thing a practice does that moves the diary. The reminder goes out at a set lead time, in the wording the patient recognises, asks for a confirmation, and is followed by a second touch the day before; the front desk then works the unconfirmed slots rather than the whole diary. Done by hand it is hours a week; done from a template pack it is a schedule the software runs. The Cochrane 2013 review of mobile phone messaging reminders found attendance rose from approximately 67.8% with no reminder to 78.6% with a text reminder.

Fix the lead time and the number of touches first
The reminder that works is the one that arrives when the patient can still rearrange and the practice can still refill the slot. Dantas et al. 2018 name high lead time between booking and visit as a main determinant of no-shows, so the first reminder goes out days ahead, not the morning of, and the second the day before. The template on this site takes both as inputs.
Write the reminder so the reply is the confirmation
A reminder that reads as a notice gets no reply; one that asks a question gets a confirmation the front desk can record. The pack carries the dental text and email wording with the confirmation line built in, and the missed-appointment follow-up for the patient who did not come, so the receptionist is never writing from a blank screen.
